I’d like to enhance my upper lip with hyaluronic acid. Does the treatment hurt? Will it swell enough for others to notice? How long does it last?

Hyaluronic acid is injected with a fine needle, and the procedure only takes a few minutes, so the physical burden is minimal. We can also apply numbing agents to reduce discomfort during the injection. Some mild swelling may occur immediately after the treatment, but most patients find it hardly noticeable. Swelling typically subsides with time. Depending on the type of filler used, results may last anywhere from a few months to several years. To maintain the effect, periodic touch-ups are recommended.

How can I reduce the size of overly thick lips?

Smart Lip (a surgical lip reduction technique) can reduce the thickness of the lips by removing excess mucosa from the inner lip and suturing it. Local anesthesia is used, so pain during the procedure is minimal, although swelling and bruising may occur afterward. The procedure takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour, with a downtime of about 1～2 weeks. The results are semi-permanent, and since the incision is made inside the lip, scarring is minimal.

You may feel a slight pinch when the needle is inserted, but we use ultra-fine needles designed for facial treatments, so the pain is usually minimal. If you’re concerned about discomfort, we offer several types of anesthesia—please feel free to ask.

Can hyaluronic acid help with cracked or dry lips?

Yes, hyaluronic acid injections can temporarily improve cracked or dry lips. Hyaluronic acid is highly moisturizing and helps retain water, making the lips appear plumper and more hydrated, which reduces the appearance of cracks. It also enhances the lips’ barrier function against dryness and irritation. However, the effect typically lasts about 6 months to 1 year, so regular maintenance is necessary. For long-term improvement, combining the treatment with a good lip care routine is recommended.
